Funding Opportunity for Nature / Food projects

The Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership are looking to commission a local not-for-profit organisation to deliver a nature or food project as part of their new Climate and Disability Programme. The commission aims to progress the nature and food priorities identified in the Community Climate Action Plan for Bristol’s community of Disabled people.

The total commission fee is £50,000, to support the delivery of a one-year project between October 2024 – October 2025. It is open to Disabled Person’s Organisations (DPO), and organisations working in collaboration with a DPO or currently delivering work with Bristol’s community of Disabled people.

Opportunities at Avon Needs Trees: strategic input and careers

Later this year, Avon Needs Trees will be calling for input on their medium to long term strategy, which will include a consultation on both Wick Farm and the Lower Chew Forest, the South West’s largest new woodland in a generation. There will also be opportunities to input on stakeholder engagement as part of their Landscape Recovery project, which aims to restore and reconnect nature across an astonishing 683 hectares of land in the Lower Chew Valley. Job Vacancy with Action for Conservation

Action for Conservation are currently recruiting for a  Land-based Project Coordinator (South West). This is a fixed-term position for three years and full-time or part-time. You will work closely with AWT on an Intergenerational Action for Nature and Climate project at Grow Wilder and have responsibility for coordinating project activities, administrative support for the project team, and leading on engaging sessions, webinars, and hands-on activities with young people, community groups, and other partners.

The Programme for this year’s Bathscape Walking Festival, which is taking place in September, is now available! Led by a team of volunteers including local historians, authors, wildlife specialists and community leaders, the walks run from the 9th – 24th September, and are of varying lengths and ease.

A family nature walk, music workshop and an evening bat walk all feature in this year’s expanded Somer Valley Walking Festival, which runs from Friday  6th September to Sunday 8th September. The festival is hosted by Somer Valley Rediscovered in collaboration with the Somer Valley Ramblers and offers walkers a weekend of exploration, learning and community spirit. This is a permanent, part-time position (26 hours/week) involving collaborative working with the council, partners, and communities to support and progress action on the building blocks to health. These include work and health, education, spatial planning, healthy neighbourhoods, climate change, the natural environment, housing, transport, poverty, and welfare. Bristol CC are currently recruiting a new Blue-Green Strategy Officer.

This fixed term post will focus on two key areas:

  • To develop a Bristol City Council Green Infrastructure Policy
  • To develop a pipeline of green infrastructure projects

Key elements of the role will be to:

  • Develop a new Green Infrastructure Policy
  • Develop up to 3 green infrastructure projects to full business case
  • Represent Bristol City council interests in green infrastructure at partnership meetings and working groups
  • Work closely with colleagues to support the Ecological Emergency Action Plan, the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain and broader Nature Recovery
  • Present briefings, and training, on green infrastructure to officers, senior managers and politicians as and when required
  • Work in partnership with colleagues and external stakeholders to promote and maximise the ecological benefits of a holistic place-based approach to sustainable growth and regeneration of the city.
